UA College of Medicine - Phoenix Names Internal Medicine Chair

PHOENIX -- The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix has named David B. Wisinger, MD, FACP, chair of the executive committee of the Department of Internal Medicine for the downtown Phoenix medical school.
Dr. Wisinger is the chairman of medicine and chief of the division of general internal medicine at Maricopa Integrated Health System and has practiced in the Phoenix area for more than 20 years.
“Dr. Wisinger is highly regarded in the medical community here,” said Stuart D. Flynn, MD, dean of the College of Medicine - Phoenix. “With all of his experience and skills in working with students, we believe Dr. Wisinger will make a tremendous contribution to the growing medical education presence in the Phoenix area.”
Dr. Wisinger is a 1986 graduate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa before completing an internship and residency training at Maricopa Medical Center in internal medicine.
After serving in MIHS’ clinics, Dr. Wisinger became the program director of the internal medicine residency program and then served in leadership positions in the department of internal medicine. He has been chair of the department since 2006, director of long-term care services for MIHS since 2000, and chief of the division of general internal medicine since 1991. He also is the medical director of Christian Care Nursing Center, a group of senior housing facilities.
Dr. Flynn added, “The appointment of Dr. Wisinger to the Council of Chairs for the medical school represents another critical component as we continue to build the foundation to maximize success in the school’s mission.”
Dr. Wisinger joins a group of chairs for the College of Medicine – Phoenix covering the departments of Basic Medical Sciences, Family, Community and Preventive Medicine, Child Health and Surgery.
The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix is currently training 190 students. The College of Medicine – Phoenix is housed in the historic Phoenix Union High School buildings owned and renovated by the city of Phoenix and is part of the downtown Phoenix Biomedical Campus.
