Patients, parents and staff at the University of Arizona Medical Center – Diamond Children’s will participate in a “Be The Match®” walk Sept. 30 to raise awareness about the importance of being a bone marrow donor.

Be The Match® operates the Be The Match Registry®, the world's largest listing of potential marrow donors and donated cord blood units.

Every year, thousands of people of all ages are diagnosed with blood cancers, such as leukemia or lymphoma, sickle cell anemia or other life-threatening diseases. Seventy percent of people do not have a donor in their family and depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match to save their life.

Be The Match Foundation® raises funds to help patients who need a marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant find a donor and receive treatment.

The University of Arizona Medical Center is one of the sponsors for the 2014 Be The Match® Walk/Run that will take place in Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Cesar Chavez Plaza. This event raises funds for Be The Match®.
