Former UA Wildcat and San Antonio Spurs basketball player, Sean Elliott, and his wife, Claudia, will host the “I Think I Can” 5th Annual Gala on Friday, Oct. 16, 6-10 p.m., at The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa.
Proceeds from the event will benefit pediatric autoimmune disorders research at the UA Steele Children’s Research Center and clinical care programs at Banner Children’s at Diamond Children’s Medical Center.
“We couldn’t think of a more worthy cause,” said Elliott. “Claudia and I are excited to return to Tucson to host this wonderful event.”
The fun-filled, lively and whimsical event will feature the theme of “I Think I Can” from the children’s classic, “The Little Engine That Could.” There will be cocktails and appetizers, followed by dinner. The event also will feature performances by the UA Jazz Trio and Tucson Circus Arts; dancing to the music of Satyr Entertainment; a live auction and a silent auction.
The following events will take place before Friday’s gala and are open to the media:
Thursday, Oct. 15, 1:30-2: p.m.:
The “I Think I Can” float will be loaded/transported to the Westin La Paloma. Location: Tucson Electric Power, Gate No. 2 at the Wilson Sundt Generating Station, 3950 E. Irvington Rd. [News media should contact David White at 520-275-3912 to have your name added for clearance at gate.]
This award-winning float from the 2015 Rose Bowl Parade was donated to the gala by the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association. Focus Logistics, Inc., transported the float from Sierra Madre, Calif., to Tucson at no charge, and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) offered to store the float for free. TEP staff members volunteered to restore elements of the float that had been damaged. It is the central decor for the gala.
