The Father’s Day Council Tucson will host its Third Annual Father’s Day Council Golf Classic on Friday, May 29, at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort.

The FDC Golf Classic will raise funds for type 1 diabetes clinical and research programs at The University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with tee-off at 12:30 p.m. Entry includes greens fee, box lunch, 19th hole awards barbecue and a silent auction.

The annual golf tournament is the kick-off event of FDC Tucson’s annual celebration of fatherhood. On Saturday, June 13, the 15th Annual Fathers of the Year Awards Dinner & Gala will be hosted by Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. This year's honorees are Les White, Gary Kippur, Rick Fink and Jose Rincon.

Father’s Day Council Tucson supports the type 1 diabetes research and clinical programs at the UA Steele Children’s Research Center, which also is home to the Angel Wing for Children with Diabetes – the only clinic in Arizona solely dedicated to children with diabetes and other endocrine disorders.

This year’s FDC Tucson golf tournament and 15th Annual Fathers of the Year Awards Dinner & Gala will fund four critically important goals:

• Pediatric Endocrinology Fellow. This individual will receive specialized training in pediatric endocrinology for one year.

• TrialNet Clinical Trial. TrialNet is an international network of researchers exploring ways to prevent, delay and reverse the progression of type 1 diabetes. Funding will give patients from the Angel Wing the opportunity to participate in the clinical trial.

• Child psychologist. In addition to the physical challenges of managing diabetes, children with diabetes and their families are faced with additional financial, physical and psychological burdens. A child psychologist will provide families with strategies to work effectively though issues as they arise.

• Father’s Day Council Tucson Endowed Chair for Type 1 Diabetes. With a goal of raising $1million by its 20th anniversary, FDC Tucson already has raised more than $300,000. The endowed chair supports training programs for medical students, residents and fellows.
