University Physicians Hospital will honor emergency medical services (EMS) personnel from across Southern Arizona with an appreciation barbecue on Friday, May 20, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
About 300 EMS personnel are expected to attend the event, hosted by the UPH Hospital Emergency Department. All first responders in the area are invited. In the past, personnel from Southwest Ambulance, Drexel Heights Fire Department, South Tucson Fire Department, The Air National Guard, Mount Lemmon Fire Department, San Manuel Fire Department, Pima Community College Paramedic Program, Sahuarita Fire Department and Green Valley Fire Department have participated in the event.
The barbecue is part of UPH’s celebration of National EMS Week, May 16-20. Different hospital departments will provide refreshments to first responders each day of the week. This is the fifth year UPH has honored EMS personnel.
