TUCSON, Ariz – The University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center has been chosen to receive a $100,000 Hope Grant from Hyundai Motor America’s “Hyundai Hope on Wheels®” program. The Hope Grant will support research for the treatment of relapsed acute leukemia following stem cell transplantation.
The grant will be presented officially during a Hope on Wheels Handprint Ceremony in front of Diamond Children’s at University Medical Center on Sept. 7, 3:30pm., where children affected by cancer will place their handprints in colorful paint on a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe – the official vehicle of the Hope on Wheels tour – to commemorate their brave battles with cancer.
Members of Jim Click Automotive Group and Hyundai Hope on Wheels will present the check to pediatric oncologist Emmanuel Katsanis, MD, professor, department of pediatrics, and Steele Center researcher. Dr. Katsanis leads the pediatric cancer research program at the Steele Center.
“This Hyundai Hope on Wheels grant is competitive and prestigious, and we are honored that the caliber of our work has earned us this award. We’re very grateful to Hyundai Hope on Wheels for the funding. Funding like this enables us to expand our program and move our research forward,” says Dr. Katsanis.
