‘The Future of Joint Resurfacing’

That’s just one of the revolutionary ideas in joint repair that will be addressed in “The Future of Joint Resurfacing,” a free presentation, open to the public, on Wednesday, June 6, 6 to 7:30 p.m., at The University of Arizona Medical Center – University Campus, Chase Bank Auditorium (Room 8403), 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson. (Please note: There is a parking fee of $1.50 per hour, cash only, in The University of Arizona Medical Center – University Campus visitor/patient parking garage. Free parking is available after 5 p.m. in the UA Zone 1 permit and metered parking lot #2030 just south of the parking garage at E. Mabel St. and Martin Ave.)
 
The lecture is presented by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center (www.arthritis.arizona.edu) at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson. Light refreshments are provided.
 
Top UA orthopaedic innovator and researcher John A. Szivek, PhD, is widely recognized for his studies of bone and cartilage regeneration with the goal of repairing damaged joints. Director of the UA Orthopaedic Research Laboratory and a senior scientist at the UA Arizona Arthritis Center, Dr. Szivek will share the latest cutting-edge developments in the future of joint resurfacing. He will lead lecture participants through current treatments for arthritis and defect repair and detail exciting advances in cartilage regeneration strategies, from repairing small defects to total surface replacements. He also will discuss the key elements of joint structure and osteoarthritis.
 
Dr. Szivek also is professor of orthopaedic surgery and chair of the UA Biomedical Engineering Graduate Interdisciplinary Program at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson; UA adjunct associate professor, aerospace and mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, and Physiological Sciences Graduate Interdisciplinary Program; and a professor with the UA BIO5 Institute.

The lecture is part of the 2012 series of “Living Healthy with Arthritis” monthly talks presented by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson and supported through the Susan and Saul Tobin Endowment for Research and Education in Rheumatology.
