UA Diving and Track Team Members to Deliver ‘SHINE ON Tucson’ Jars to Hospitalized Children at Diamond Children’s

Friday, April 5, 2013 - 1:00pm
Members from the University of Arizona men’s track and field and diving teams will visit pediatric patients at The University of Arizona Medical Center – Diamond Children’s on Friday, April 5, 1 p.m., and distribute jars full of toys and other goodies assembled by volunteers of SHINE ON Tucson.

“The mission of SHINE ON Tucson is to provide a sense of comfort to families when the unthinkable happens to their child – such as illness or trauma,” says Janey Russell, the founder of SHINE ON.

Russell says that Shine On Jars are “jars of warmth” for the children being treated at Diamond Children’s. “They are hugs from the community – we want the children and families to know they are not alone, and that members of the Tucson community are thinking about them and giving them something unexpected to smile about,” she says.

SHINE ON Tucson has partnered with UA student athletes to deliver these special jars on a monthly basis.
