UA Sarver Heart Center ‘Heart of the Matter’ Luncheon

Saturday, October 12, 2013 - 10:30am to 2:30pm

If the latest news on heart disease leaves you with more questions than answers, you’ll have an opportunity to get clarification from experts associated with the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center during the 8th Annual Heart of the Matter luncheon, An Educational Luncheon on Heart Disease in Women, on Saturday, Oct. 12, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Westward Look Resort, 245 E. Ina Road, Tucson.

In the United States, cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in both men and women. While cardiovascular diseases in men and women share many similarities, there are distinctions requiring different diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. These differences are of increasing importance, for while the mortality of men with cardiovascular disease has been decreasing gradually since the mid-1980s, the mortality in women has been on the rise.

The Heart of the Matter program begins at 10:30 a.m. with a reception that includes information tables on heart disease, stroke and diabetes, nutrition, blood pressure screenings and chest-compression-only CPR. The Westward Look Resort also is offering a special cooking demonstration by its executive chef and a tour of the Chef’s Garden, featuring seasonal fruits and vegetables. Following brief updates on heart-related research and education, the luncheon program will feature a panel of experts who will answer questions submitted by attendees.

The cost is $35 per person (in advance). To register, please visit www.heart.arizona.edu and click on “Events.” Please register early as space is limited. To submit questions for the panel discussion, please email heart@email.arizona.edu or call 520-626-4146.
