Thursday, June 6, 2013 - 10:00am
Lisa Kopp, DO, assistant professor and researcher with the UA Steele Children’s Research Center, has been chosen to receive a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant from Hyundai Motor America’s “Hyundai Hope on Wheels®” program.

The grant officially will be presented during a Hope on Wheels Handprint Ceremony in the lobby of The University of Arizona – Diamond Children’s on Thursday, June 6, at 10 a.m.

During the ceremony, children battling cancer will place their handprints dipped in colorful paint on a white 2013 Hyundai Scholar lab coat, which will be presented to Dr. Kopp at the ceremony. Every Handprint Ceremony celebrates the courageous lives of the children faced with cancer and brings Hope On Wheels’ community of supporters together.

Jim Click Automotive Group and Hyundai Hope on Wheels will present the Hyundai Scholar Grant to Dr. Kopp. Her research focuses on improving cure rates in pediatric solid tumors.

“We are extremely grateful to Jim Click and Hyundai Hope on Wheels for their generosity and commitment to fighting childhood and adolescent cancer,” said Dr. Kopp. “The survival rate is very poor for children and young adults with recurrent or metastatic solid tumors and we are in need of new treatments. Funds from this grant will be used for research in the laboratory evaluating immunotherapy approaches that target pediatric solid tumors.”
