‘Oh My Aching Joints: Exploring the Latest Treatments for Joint Pain'

Oh My Aching Joints: Exploring the Latest Treatments for Joint Pain, a free 75-minute presentation by Jeffrey R. Lisse, MD, a practicing rheumatologist with The University of Arizona Health Network and professor of medicine with the UA College of Medicine – Tucson, will be held Wednesday, May 7, at 6 p.m., at The University of Arizona Medical Center – University Campus, DuVal Auditorium (Room 2600), 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson.

Open to the public, the event is being held in conjunction with Arthritis Awareness Month and includes time for questions and answers. Light refreshments will be provided.

Dr. Lisse will discuss the latest pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to reduce joint pain and inflammation and present the keys to longevity and improved function while dealing with stresses on joint cartilage. He will provide updates on the risks and benefits of the newest therapies along with the latest research into pain management treatments with the goal of increased comfort and mobility.

Dr. Lisse has published numerous articles on therapies for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and on the epidemiology of rheumatic diseases. He joined the UA in 2000, when he was named the Ethel McChesney Bilby Endowed Chair for Osteoporosis and medical director of the osteoporosis program at the University of Arizona Arthritis Center. He served as chief of the Division of Rheumatology at the UA from 2004 to 2013. He previously served at the University of Texas for 17 years as chief of the Division of Rheumatology.

Dr. Lisse received his medical degree with honors from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., in 1976. He completed his internal medicine residency at the United States Public Health Services Hospital and his rheumatology fellowship at the University of California – San Diego.

The lecture is part of the “Living Healthy with Arthritis” series of monthly talks presented by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson and supported through the Susan and Saul Tobin Endowment for Research and Education in Rheumatology.

The 75-minute lectures, with time for questions and answers, are held the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at The University of Arizona Medical Center – University Campus, 1501 N. Campbell Ave. No lectures will be held in June, July and August; lectures will resume beginning Wednesday, Sept. 3 (topic and speaker to be announced).
