John Duval, Chief Operating Officer at University Medical Center, has accepted a position as Chief Executive Officer at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, Medical College of Virginia Hospitals. He will begin his new duties June 1.
Located in Richmond, the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals is the teaching hospital component of the VCU Health System, which includes several outpatient clinics and a 600-physician faculty group practice. The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has 822 licensed beds and is the only academic medical center in central Virginia.

Mr. Duval joined UMC in 1987 when he became the hospital's associate hospital director. Prior to that he was assistant director of University Hospital at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

"It is no surprise that John would be offered such a position," said Greg Pivirotto, UMC CEO. "During his 16-year tenure at UMC, he has been involved in every aspect of UMC's operations. Most recently, John has played a critical role in addressing Southern Arizona's trauma system crisis and has been instrumental in our region's disaster preparedness efforts. His commitment and dedication to UMC have been extraordinary. We will all miss him and wish him the best in this exciting new endeavor."
