Holecek Nursing Scholarship Winner: Wanda Larson
In December 2004, a check for $1,000 was presented to Wanda Larson, CEN, BSN, BA, MAEd, winner of the Mary Holecek Memorial Scholarship for Advanced Nursing Studies. Larson is training program director for Emergency Medicine.
Throughout the years since 1977, Larson has held the positions of unit assistant, staff nurse, assistant nurse manager, prehospital coordinator and prehospital clinical educator. Currently Larson is enrolled in the PhD program for nursing at the College of Nursing and will apply her scholarship to this end.
This Scholarship was established in 1974 in the memory of Mary Holecek, a former UMC registered nurse. Her mother Mrs. Fisher wished to contribute to the Nursing Scholarship in memory of her daughter so that someone would have the same opportunity as her daughter. Since then, 16 UMC nurses have won this scholarship enabling them to further their nursing education and careers, just as Mrs. Fisher had hoped it would.
