Mindy Shields, a six-year veteran of working with Phoenix-area community groups, political organizations and in advertising, has been appointed associate director, Community Relations, for The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, in partnership with Arizona State University.
In her new role, Shields will lead the effort to strengthen the university's relationships with key stakeholders, community groups and business and professional leaders. She also will guide the creation of an advisory group for the college made up of community leaders.
"We are thrilled to have Mindy join the team in our efforts to build an outstanding medical school campus and address the state's growing need for physicians," said Judy Bernas, associate vice president of external relations for the university. "Mindy brings a wealth of knowledge of the Phoenix landscape that will help us build connections with all of those who have a stake in the success of the college."
Shields has spent nearly four years with the Molera Alvarez Group, a Phoenix business development, government relations and public affairs firm. Prior to that Shields served as statewide event coordinator for the Arizona Community College Association and was an account executive for Grupo N Advertising, a Phoenix advertising agency that specializes in targeting the Hispanic market.
Shields also has six years of experience in political fundraising, working for several councilmember candidates in Phoenix, Glendale and Chandler. She also is involved in the Hispanic Women's Conference as chairwoman of the executive committee and in the Southwest Leadership Foundation.
