TUCSON, Ariz. – The three-day new medical student orientation, MedCat Welcome, will take place Wednesday, July 31 – Friday, Aug. 2 at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and at Tucson community centers. MedCat Welcome Begins July 31 and ends Aug. 2

MedCat Welcome features events designed to familiarize the 115 new medical students of the Class of 2017 with one another, the Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) campus and the Tucson community:

  • Wednesday, July 31: Building Your Community Day, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m., Arizona Health Sciences Center Campus Scavenger Hunt. Students will start the scavenger hunt at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson Administrative Offices and then explore the AHSC campus in search of items the various AHSC colleges, departments and centers of excellence have hidden for the hunt. Student will gain prizes, goodies and learn their way around the AHSC campus.
  • Thursday, Aug. 1: Getting to Know Your Community Day, 2:45 – 5 p.m., MedCat Community Welcome. At 2:45 p.m. a Flash Mob will be performed by UA College of Medicine – Tucson staff and others and will lead to an ice cream social sponsored by the college and taking place in front of the college’s administrative offices. The day ends with an information fair from 3:15- 5 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 2: Serving Your Community Day, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. During the morning and early afternoon, the new medical students will volunteer on service projects at various Tucson community centers including the Primavera Foundation, World Care Civilian Emergency Relief Center, Literacy Connects Coalition and the Easter Seals Blake Foundation.
